USAF Boxing Championships Part 1

 

January 18 another day in the war on terror.  Al Queda and others plotted and attempted schemes to destroy the American way of life.  Many members of the US military served their turn heroically on the front line.  Others relieved of their normally duties and obligations which run the gambit of military life proceeded in the footprints of tradition and friendly competition.  They were officiated by locals from both Austin and San Antonio who volunteer and have been trained by USA boxing.   T/Sgt Daniel S Corkery with his voice singing the National Anthem got the night off to stunning start.  No accompanying music just a beautiful human voice singing words written in another war about a flag and a constitution those boxers protect and defend.  In short that and the invocation along the boxers marched in the color guard presented the colors traditional reminders of what is held dear set the correct tone for the evening.    The land of the free continues to be free because of the brave like those who competed January 18,2008.  In typical American fashion this event symbolic went almost unnoticed...in San Antonio.  Boxing fans who were not missed out on great free amateur boxing action. 

He is an Air Weapons Officer on an AWACS out of Tinker Air Force Base.  He won the novice lightweight bout.  He is Lt. James Barber of Anchorage Alaska.

 

He works hard keeping AC and heating working for this brothers and sisters defending the nation.  He is based in Moody Air Force Base Georgia.  He also won his open division lightweight bout.  He is SSGT  Zaire Naylor.

A1c Matthew McCoy Supply man out of Lackland Air Force Base....and winner of Novice division  light welterweight bout. 

 

Fire Truck Mechanic A1C David Russell won his light welterweight novice division bout.  He represented Pope  Air Force Base.

Two security Forces guys in the ring...great action to watch.  Sra Joshua Gomez won it in the novice welterweight division.  Sra Joshua Gomez represents Kirtland Air Force Base North Carolina.

Local am boxer Cockunbo Adeniran got to step up against Air Force competition and come out the winner in a novice  middleweight bout.

It was a struggle but he it was a triumph for electric engineer who makes missiles function as intended  Lt.  Mario Cooper Padilla out of Tyndall Air Force Base Florida.  The bout was in the open division middle weight class. 

Captain Rodney Ellison who works with Space missile operations won his novice division heavyweight bout.
