Eloy Saurez Delaware Bound Against Odds words photos Esteban Erik Stipnieks all rights reserved

The other side of the coin is Eloy Saurez long time pro I have seen him at two gyms Angels boxing club and now Team Azteca between Loop 410 and 1604. Boxing is like pop music there are talented boxers who do not get play or opportunities. The irony is there are fewer male names that a webmaster can post that will insure a flood of traffic and additional income. I have mentioned names Eloy Suarez, Ronn Simms, James Dubois in boxing chatrooms no interest. Mention female boxing lots of people interested. Eloy might have been a big name but in the world of boxing politics 02-03 his opportunities were limited, the chicken and egg scenario. He is a native of Mexico long time San Antonio resident who has done quite a bit of land scaping work.Ironically there are names that are pushed sometimes without total merit with not so good consequences. Eloy did fight ESPN Randys ballroom 2002.   It was a stunning upset that night I remember well. That was a while ago. Whatever could have happened did not.

Recently Eloy has gotten publicity the bad kind. I wrote a harsh editorial about it. In the song Mrs Rita the Gin Blossoms say “There is now swimming in the bottle its just some place we all drown.” It is my opinion some recent blots in Eloy’s record have been due to this. Sadly the lesson was not noticed by other local male boxers.

Feb 25 Eloy has an opportunity. I have seen a Cinderella man story emerge as well in another time.  It was a stunning victory for a boxer out Scholar Warrior boxing gym.  It might have been summer 2003.  Sadly even though I shot his workout father of a couple kids.  Even I forgot his name.  Who knows maybe with another older male boxer Eloy Suarez it will happen again.  In terms of the legal matter I was disappointed with what Eloy did. He has been cleared. What he does will say whole lot about him. Can he do what a gym mate did 20 days before his fight? Will he win the first battle the battle with himself remains to be seen. It appears that the legal matter has been settled.  Eloy is not the first and after his arrest others have made headlines open container.  What will happen Feb 25 will indicate if another battle in Eloy's life had been won or lost.  Will he do what a gym mate of his had done 20 days previous? We will find out.  Who knows maybe if the coffee house crowd in San Antonio looks into boxing they will find what Hemingway and others found it.  I can tell you for a fact many of the male characters are worth watching or at least reading about and the drama at the pro cards merit the cost of admission often.
