The Backroads Buzzard Faces The War How About A Hilljack War Footing Going Green for Victory! Food for thought by Esteban Erik Stipnieks
The charm of the Texas Hill Country is that despite radically different world views old school hippies and very conservative people tend to live in harmony in to one extent or another. Lets use this thinking and create a solution or use common ground to fight a war. What Willie and Waylon bought together offers a bit of a solution to the growing problem here in the United States. Though many deny it there is a fairly large group of people who want to kill Americans. They want the great Satan of the United States wiped off the face of the earth.
There are some glaring ironies the person complaining about the greedy oil companies driving around and around looking for a good parking spot! I see chopped limbs as a source of mulch. Why go to the store to buy a fifty pound bag of mulch when you just cut limbs that when ground up or sawed and you can have 100lbs of mulch? I laugh at the the one who claims to support the troops living an energy intensive lifestyle. Oil is a commodity its price is tied to demand. Ultimately getting it out of the ground has a cost that varies from location to location. The cost of oil has little to do with the cost of production. If it costs too much to produce people will not get it out of the ground. The trouble is enemies of the United States of America Iran, and our favorite Caldillo Hugo Chavez along with the Saudi's make money off this hydrocarbon. Even if the United States went to 100% domestic production that would ultimately effect the commodity cost and line the wallet of those who want us dead.
I have been quite loud in my opposition to the implementation of toll roads. I have argued that 1 to 2 cents per meal on a fast food place will hurt the restaurant and kill jobs. I have cited that the decrease of 27 cents expenditure per park visit at Sea World would mean more then a few jobs. What does it have to do with oil we are talking the same concept. Howard Garret, Bob Webster, Bruce Dooley offer a secret weapon in the war on terror. Bruce Dooley talked about how it takes 10 kcals to move 1Kcal of energy in the form of lettuce. The simple organic garden and going to more organic methods of lawn care. You got St.Augustine suffering from Nitrogen Chlorisis why are you throwing your coffee grounds away! Put them on the grass! There is also the absurdity of throwing your brush and yard trimmings away while buying bags of mulch! A simple compost bag in the kitchen can provide nutrient material for a garden in the back yard that grow food. You recover in a compost pile the makings of fertilizer. You make use of the nutrients you purchased at your grocery store. The calories expended in a round trip to your yard to obtain peppers, potatoes, onions, tomatoes, beans, carrots, spinach, okra is far fewer then the calories expended to visit the grocery store to buy the same products. With organic methods you can create your own war on Terror victory garden. Maybe the area you cultivate makes a tiny impact a barrel of oil over a year. It is powerful when joined by others. The dirty secret is your daily paper and your pet poop can do wonders if you want to grow your own worms and the produce a lovely worm compost which can help grow some rather nice food! This will reduce the load on the recycle trucks. Recycling metal has the best bang for the buck.
How big of an impact can we make by simple lifestyle adjustments. The act of a little bit of planning or minor adjustments to a thermostat while done in isolation is small multiply this by a few hundred, a few thousand, we are talking major impact. Move the thermostat from 65 to 70 on the AC. Or if you want and you can tolerate the heat why not set the temp at 80 or even 85. By the same token in the winter time why does your house have to be so toasty. I hate cold weather during the wintertime I set the thermostat at 65-70. Even though you may have to some extent wind power. Nuclear fuel has to be transported by truck or train! Coal has to be mined and transported which is done primarily by some sort of petro chemical diesel or gasoline. Natural gas is sold by terrorist supported nations.
Even the act of driving the simple act of combining errands a gallon of gasoline here per week a couple gallons there. Instead of hit or miss why not have a whole errand day. Some photos for the boxing site were paid for in advance the money taken to the bank deposited and in that time the images were ready to be uploaded and edited half a gallon there. Yes it may require some extra time but with gasoline near three dollars a gallon you get a good return on five to ten minutes worth of effort. There is also driving in a more economical way slowly accelerate if you see a stale green you are getting closer to why not get off the gas now. I have had the experience where my extra time spent in deceleration avoided a stop. Driving with a little foresight and trying to minimize pedal movement and allowing time to go a distance. Why rush at 70 when you can cruise at 65 and save a couple gallons in the journey.
The war on terror is real. The irony is some the people who are doing the most with their organic gardens smaller cars warmer or cooler houses are actually helping win the war. Gluttony last time I checked is a sin. Having a consumptive lifestyle is not supportive of the troops. It lines the wallets of our enemies. I am not saying going totally sparse is the idea but pick our pleasures. I enjoy having fresh produce I enjoy other perks a change of a driving style is not really suffering or even giving the very lifestyle those warriors fight to defend. Planning errands when there is less traffic and combining errands is immediately financially rewarding. When you live a lifestyle that lines the wallets of those who want to kill us is hardly supportive of our troops.
