Every cross-country runner will tell you….there are moments where the most carefully crafted plan and hours of work without warning due to circumstances completely out your control go up in smoke. Suddenly the runner finds himself or herself relying on past experience skill and guts to make something good happen after everything went wrong. In such an awkward moment real glory can be attained.

Christina Ruiz was a victim of the debacle in Iowa. (Click this link to find out) As a result of that debacle to preserve her courage and work ethic Emilio Ledezma is in the position to go big or not go at all. It is still up in the air whether a greater degree of justice will be served. For all boxers the cry from those how know is “NEVER AGAIN”

I have talked to people a tune up or as Sue Fox a tuna fight would actually be detrimental to Ruiz. Enter the joker in the hand of Christina’s career…the offer WBC title v Alicia Ashley. Lesson from the cross-country course and the universal laws of aerial combat sometimes the plan that appears to be the most radical daring and audacious maybe the most effective and in reality is the most conservative plan.

I photographed Christina Ruiz talked to her and her trainer….Christina has always had work ethic issue. I did not probe too much but what I saw at the new Azteca boxing club was something different. Christina has had the curse of talent. The joke is you combine Celina Salazar’s work ethic with Christina’s talent you have champion. Christina wore a new intensity like the body odor Janina Lopez after she had poured a couple driveways in July. This vibe was radically then what came before a rematch of a local rival. Can it be while Celina is inactive that the work ethic she has finally infected Christina. Well San Antonio may have its next champion. It was sincere and not faked, no acting involved.

Alicia Ashley is no dummy in a Facebook message she has noted the evolution of Christina. Christina has heavy hands and power she has gotten slicker. Alicia Ashley knows what Alicia Ashley has to do to beat Christina Ruiz.....use reach and out box Christina.
What we are stuck with….Ruiz is where Ruiz is most effective behind the 8 ball she is more the brawler without the reach fighting on hostile territory. Like the Luftwaffe now aware of the B-17s bearing down Alicia Ashley knows the threat. Ruiz is the underdog but…..July 23 do not discount her chances she might deliver her own shock to San Antonio while a hot night of boxing is going on at the San Antonio Event Center.
