Will a Former Gymmate KO Maribel Zurita's Career?
First this not a sequential bio his recollection archived images from my worms eye view of Maribel Zurita's career. Her precise record can be found at www.womenboxing.com check her record. My recollections past the first Vega bout in Austin and the split of the Ledezma's from Zarzamora St somewhere in the site's history are under other memories.
Maribel Zurita began boxing at the gym that is now history run by Lisa Avila it was part of the boxing fitness craze added onto Lisa Avila's fitness center. Maribel was trained by Felix Castillo and company while Lisa fought pro and ran the place. When Maribel Zurita turned pro a verbal agreement was entered with Tony Ayala of which I am not sure what wound up happening was Ayala Sr entered the picture and Lisa Avila who had no pro management experience left the picture after Maribel Zurita's First Pro fight. Tony Ayala Sr became the dominant force and she was primarily based out of Zarzamora St Gym. Her next fight I felt she was in over her head against Jay Vega. After the Vega fight rape allegations were made against Tony AYala Jr. Ultimately in what happened left me without a close position to monitor Maribel's Career. Maribel went to fight Gracie Oliveras out of Houston twice, What had been talk at Lisa Avila's Heavyweight gym happened with Maribel Zurita fighting Anissa Twice. There are some photos of the bout I covered in the following links. She would also rematch with Jay

Bianca's last bout was controversial. Maribel has fought to a draw and in an exhibition. For a title belt holder the fall has been big from my personal viewpoint not surprising. On May 30 at Municipal Auditorium we will see if the once promising lioness of San Antonio has it in her or will a former gymmate who split with bad terms with the whole Ayala clan wipe the history books. Tickets are available from Ticket Master and they go on sale Saturday May 3.
